Emotions are a normal part of our lives such as when we experience joy, grief, anger for example; It is when these emotions are not resolved they can begin to affect our health and vital organs.
Lungs are responsible for respiratory and immune system function. We inhale oxygen(pure air) and exhale carbon dioxide (waste)
The emotions associated with the Lungs are grief/sorrow. Grief can include a loss of a loved one, pet, relationship or career.
According to the Horary Clock in Traditional Chinese Medicine the lungs repair themselves between 3-5 am. Mucus and waste from your lungs becomes loosened between 3 to 5 am, and when you awaken, this can be why you experience mucus buildup. If you are coughing in the morning, your lungs are trying to expel the mucus. Waking up frequently during this time can also be an indication of deep grief that must be dealt with.
If lung function is not in balance one may experience breathlessness, coughing, weak voice, allergies or fatigue.
What can you do to help with proper lung function:
1) take deep breaths-many times we breath without even realizing we are only shallow breathing that slows down the energy within the lungs but taking nice deep breaths can regulate the energy within the lungs allowing us to feel less tired.
2) Try breathing exercises associated with Qi Gong, Yoga or meditation.
Experiencing prolonged grief can have a negative impact on you and your health. Acupuncture helps to rebalance the body, move emotional blockages so the emotions can be released in a healthy way
